I am planning a Mad Hatter-themed tea party bridal shower for one of my best friends, and though I have a good idea of how to decorate (CRAZY!) and the foods (traditional tea party gone mad), I am struggling with how to word the invitations, keeping in mind that it needs to be essentially reminiscent of how the Hatter would write. Any ideas?
How can I word invites for a mad hatter tea party bridal shower?
There's room, there's room, to help us celebrate,
The wedding of (name) - our friend who really rates!
A bridal tea (quite mad of course) takes place at ? o'clock.
Wear a silly hat and bring a gift, that won't put you in hock!
So show up promptly at my house and wear a dress so pretty,
Leave the doormouse on the step - he's not invited - what a pity!
Where? My house - I told you that! (address)
Time? Did you read the above?
For Whom? Come now read again
What? A MAD HATTER BRIDAL SHOWER
And don't be late!
Reply:I'm sorry I cant help much-- I havent read the novels (though I've been thinking about doing so lately) and I havent seen the movie in a while. But I have some suggestions.
Do a play on the 'A very happy un-birthday' song. A very happy un-%26lt;insert word%26gt;
Use the riddle from the novel AND movie: "Why is a raven like a writing desk?"
Use the song that hatter sings in the novel.
"Twinkle, twinkle, little bat!
How I wonder what you're at!
Up above the world you fly,
Like a teatray in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle little bat!
How I wonder what you're at! "
Do a play on what Lewis Carroll did at the end of Through the Looking Glass. He wrote an acrostic poem with Alice Lidell (inspiration for Alice)'s full name. You could do one with your best friend (the bride)'s full name, or the mad hatters name.
Here's the poem:
A boat beneath a sunny sky,
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July--
Children three that nestle near,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Pleased a simple tale to hear--
Long has paled that sunny sky:
Echoes fade and memories die.
Autumn frosts have slain July.
Still she haunts me, phantomwise,
Alice moving under skies
Never seen by waking eyes.
Children yet, the tale to hear,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Lovingly shall nestle near.
In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die:
Ever drifting down the stream--
Lingering in the golden gleam--
Life, what is it but a dream?
I quickly sketched a little thing. You could make the invites really wacky-- lots of pinks and greens. Bright, vibrant shades, not pastels.

Sorry its really messy. :P
And at the end maybe you could say something like:
Please dont be late for this very important date!
Sorry I couldnt help more. Tell your friend Congrats!
