I manage a boutique that sells jewelry, handbags, shoes, and (limited clothing) shirts. The owner wants me to fix the window to make it look more inviting. She doesn't know how to do it. Right now there are purses and rhinestone shirts hanging in the window. I am not sure what is need to make the window more attractive and inviting. There are two picture windows with the glass door in the center. The windows are 6ft wide and 5 ft tall. The problem is that there is a 4 ft counter on each window so it makes it difficult for people to look through the window to see the entire store. Any suggestions. I thought of remving the counters but that would involve repairing the window frame and getting new flooring in the area that the counters are in.
How do you create an inviting window display?
It's hard to tell what kind of window display would work well since I'm not sure what kind of product and customers you have. Based on the kind of window displays I enjoy, I suggest trying to tell a story with your window display. For example, maybe you could do a window that's all about the land of milk and honey, putting in gold, yellow, and cream products in the window , simulating a honey "waterfall" of shoes, etc. Stories or themes capture people's attention well.
If you are showcasing jewelry, take some ideas from local jewellers whose window displays you admire. Jewellers usually do a great job of showing off their product. If you are showing off jewelry, I would do only jewelry (in one window) and not other products as well. When people are walking by, they should be able to deduce immediately what you sell and what kind of experience they will have in the store.
Your display should contain high-impact and large-scale elements instead of small knick-knacks. Small things tend to clutter up the window and make it look down-market and kind of clearance-ish.
Check out these sites which have great information about doing window displays, or which have examples of wonderful window displays:

Reply:without be physically there to see, it is totally impossible to give you a idea.
Reply:Instead of fixing try adding some ad to the window that will make people go inside. Like make a huge sign - 'FREE 'item' for every client today!'
Something like that. Though make it interesting for your clients.
Reply:Try installing Flat screen monitors connected to make one giant screen. This will allow you to have a multimedia display, while highlighting store specials.
